I've grown this squash too and I agree with ralphw's praise. It is the only squash I can grow that doesn't succumb to squash bugs. I haven't used it as a winter squash but I'd like to try it.

Ralph - I've dried thin slices of squash before in my dehydrator (you know how it gets in the middle of summer when you have way too many). It didn't give any flavor to anything but it did add some thickening to soups and stews. Just a few squash and you can have enough dried slices to last all winter.

I love the trombone squash, though it's been a few years since i've grown it. Its texture is really nice and crunchy- firmer than most and the flavor is nutty. I'll bet it would make a good winter squash! You'll have to let us know how it tastes.

While I like Trombocino's resistance, I find the flavor lacking sweetness when fried like yellow squash. I have one that I let get over ripe (they take on an orange/brown skin tone) and I will see how that does as a fall keeper. I have used them in Weightwatcher's zero point soup and they don't add anything. I wish I could find a yellow squash resistant to borer. Best I can do about that is keep reseeding over the growing season. Since this is an heirloom, remember to save seed from ripe ones for next year and save some $$.
