Cezanne is one of the Raymond Evison patio clematis series. I have been treating it as a group III, but someone with weather more like yours may have a better answer for you.

I've seen Mr. Evison on TV showing how easy the Patio series is to prune by grabbing all the vines in one hand and cutting them all off about six inches from the dirt in the other.

Bob, could you please tell how the Patio Clematis perform for you? Both WalMart and Lowe's have them now. They are advertised as long blooming varieties, but potted plant I bought at WalMart did not impress me. I am thinking about returning it.

Cezanne is the only patio clematis I have. It did well for a year in the house by a bright window then I put it outside. It may be in a spot that is too sunny for it because it really hasn't grown too much and has only a few blooms. I may have to move it later to give it another chance to impress me. I do like the color of the blooms.

They are supposed to stay short and compact and were bred for pots. I haven't bought one yet, because they have been really expensive. I generally don't shop Lowe's or Wal*Mart.

I absolutely love love love my Cezanne. I have it planted in a container on my deck, southern exposure so it gets bright full sun everday. It blooms it's fool head off each summer for me. It is really putting out the buds right now, should be blooming in another couple weeks. Then after it is done with its spring flush, I chop it down to the ground, give it another application of fertilizer and she regrows and reblooms even better in the fall for me.

I really like this one. Highly recommended.

I've enjoyed this variety so much that I've been looking for some of the other Evison patio collection varieties, but so far no such luck, locally anyway. I might have to go the online route since I happen to have a big empty container on my deck looking for an inhabitant.

Thanks for the info, Bob and Matt! I'll give my 'Versailles' Patio Clematis another chance. Matt, both our local Lowe's and WalMart have 4 varieties of Patio Clematis: 'Versailles', 'Bourbon', 'Angelique', 'Cezanne'. They are a little expensive ($19.99 for 1.6 G pot), but online prices with shipping cost could be even higher.

I saw a Cezanne last week in a mobile home park and it was covered with flowers from the ground up and in full bloom, absolutely gorgeous.

I guess I'll have to go to one or the other. I really hate to support Lowe's, bought a $500 wooden patio set there and it fell apart after one season and they refused to refund or replace. I had the receipt too. They said it said on the box that it wasn't outdoor wood.
