Pat..I just planted Clematis "Kingfisher" in my "Miguel Memorial Gardens" in Spring and let it bloom so I could see...I then pinched out the top above a leaf axil to allow it to focus on its roots now instead of growing vines..Was yours too little to plant in the ground?..If so dig a hole and drop the pot in where you'll get water from your Sprinkler or a place you will remember to water to keep it moist...I planted mine right in the garden..I drove 60 miles to my gf house in South Houston to see her gardens and her Clematis "Kingfisher" is older than mine and can't wait till mine grows up..Here is mine..Jeanne
