Hey, I am new to clematis, so I can't help with your ID, but thanks for the link! I enjoyed the interview with Mr. Evison. It was helpful and interesting to me.

That clip is from Gardentime our local garden show. I watch it every Saturday morning. Judy, the host is perennials buyer for Al's Garden Center. One of the biggest in Oregon. She and William, the other host are out and about at local gardening events all the time. I really enjoy their show.

The clematis I purchased as The President is blooming now. It's very dark purple with large red anthers that blend in so much you have to look at the flower closely to see the color difference.

I just checked in "Pocket Guide to Clematis. The photo of The President in the book looks like mine, but the photo of The President on CotW looks like my mystery clematis.

I also looked at the photos of The President here

which too is a deeper purple than what is shown on CotW

If it looks like the one on the video it looks like the President to me. I have one that I have been going back and forth on the ID of for a while now that I believe is the President.

Trying to compare colors on different sites and not knowing the comparative age of the blooms makes identification of many clematis difficult, especially for the type IIs.

The tepals on my unknown are very wavy. I will have fresh blooms today or tomorrow and I bought a card reader for my camera, so I should be able to post a photo in a couple of days.

That short video can sure take a long time when only dial-up is available in your area.

I was thinking, that since the program was about shorter clems, possibly the ones shown were Evisons. So I searched on COTW for Evison as breeder & a low height. Closest I could get was Parisienne, but the first picture was rather light.

But when the others were talking about the President, I thought about Konigskind (Climador). It is a shorter sport of the Prez, but not by Evison.

When I finally did get to 1.22 on the video, I compared it to Konigskind, and it was pretty close.

So I would say that your 'not Will Goodwin' probably is The President, unless it is as short as Konigskind or Parisienne.

Don't know if that muddies the water or makes it any clearer but it does demonstrate how difficult identification of some of the type II blue-purple clematis can be since the same flower can look entirely different from shot to shot depending on a multitude of factors.

I know some of the Clems that they were showing ARE Evison's for sure so it makes sense that all of them were.

Miguel, the photos of your President looks like the clematis I thought was The President that is blooming in my yard. The color of clematis in question looks very much like Konigskind except the tepals on mine are very wavy.

Once in a while when I am in the database in CotW, I see a clematis that could be the one I am trying to identify, however, all those clematis seem to be un-named.

Janet, perhaps the age of the blooms or growing conditions are affecting the waviness (if that is a word) of the blooms.

The unnamed ones on COTW are probably hybrids or plants grown from seed and that is why they are unnamed.

They open wavy and stay that way.
