Lovely! Sounds like you're having the same heat issues we're having here in Ohio. Fortunately we had 3" of rain this week so at least the plants have had something to drink. I have not experienced mildew on my Clematis yet but I'll be on the lookout. I have Etoile Rose and I think I remember you saying that it was a mildew magnet for you.

No rain here in almost two weeks Gardengirl. That with the heat and the wind that seems to blow all the time is really drying things out. Send us some of your rain please!

Dazi, what I found works the best for me is the following product. Of course, you have to be proactive in spraying since once infected you can't get rid of mildew but you can check its development on new foliage. Every year I keep saying that I will be proactive and start spraying early but until it shows its face, I tend to forget about mildew.

Thanks for the tip on what you use to control mildew. I checked Etoile Rose carefully this evening and toward the bottom of the plant I do see some nasty looking foliage with black spots. No surprise since after the rain we've now had temperatures in the 90s for 2 days. Polish Spirit seems to have some as well. It's not bad on either plant but I may get some spray to control it.

Someone once said re: phlox to spray that puppy with wilt pruf very early in the season, and you won't see PM. I've not tried it, but it would be great if it works (since nothing else does). Maybe it would work for clems?
