Cool Joan. I notice that all my blooms have 6 sepals. Do all the blooms on yours have 4? Was this one that you grew from seed or one that was purchased, and if purchased, what was it supposed to be? I like what I have but am just curious if it is what it is supposed to be. Doesn't look like Carmencita on COTW, but then again I have a Kermesina that is similar looking with bigger blooms than what is currently on my "Carmencita".

I have contacted Donahues and sent them pictures of the two clematis in question. Let's see if they respond!

That does look like Little Nell. I took some pictures of mine today, first blooms on it of the season, but I haven't uploaded them yet.

Thanks gardengirl for the ID. I figured it was a viticella due to the comparative size of the flower against the other two that it was paired with. The color is pretty indicative also. Looking forward to see your shots of Little Nell.

Carol, I like it too! Are you all getting any rain? Looked like we might get some yesterday but all it did was barely wet the patio.

Miguel, no rain at all. It poured all around us the other night and all we got was thunder and lightening. It is scalding hot and dry as can be. This is two years in a row with the abnormally hot temps and no rain. I am beginning to wonder if this is a sign of a permanent weather change here. I certainly hope not.

I bought it without a tag because I liked the flowers. It has small petite leaves too but the vine was huge. I am sure it is a viticella. I haven't planted it yet, can't figure out where to put it.

I know what you mean Carol. It is really demoralizing seeing things just dry up and blow away.

Well heard back from Donahues and they are offering to replace the two mislabeled clematis. I said sure but please don't ship until fall due to the weather conditions. They postulated that the one labeled Carmencita was Abundance (doesn't look like the Abudance I already have) and that the one labeled Royal Velours was Betty Corning (which doesn't look anything like the Betty Corning I already have). I am happy however that they agreed I didn't get the ones I ordered and offered to replace them. That is good customer service for you!
