My Alionushka is growing up a maple tree and is not lax at all. The lower stems are quite woody and hold the plant reaonably erect until it grabs into the tree. Perhaps if I had kept it trimmed shorter in its earlier years it might have been more lax.

Word of advice--make sure to use light colored clematis in green foliaged plants. Most other colors get lost in the green leaves unless the plant has an open habit. Huldine should be great for a dark purple maple especially if you can see the pinkish ribs down the center of the sepals' backsides.

Both spellings are exceptable for the russian sound they fonetically represent. And both are not close enogh to it :)

I am doing the same thing. I am out of control and have clematis everywhere! You can always squeeze in one more.
I have to say everyone MUST have Arabella. I have had it for 3 years and it blooms profusely from spring to frost.
It is amazing. Alionushka (however you spell it) is woody but doesn't get real big and is also a pretty good long term bloomer for me. I bought 12 more clems. that were on sale that I have to find a home for. I have all roses so there is no better companion.

I'm really impressed with Juuli right now, more so than Arabella but Juuli does get more sun.

Juuli is covering a 'Crimson Pygmy' Barberry. I have two more and have to cover them too. I was at a nursery that had quite a few blooming Clematis and grabbed a Barberry to color match. Found one that was really cool but gets way to big. It said 18'+. It was a C. koreana and it had flowers that looked like photos of 'My Angel' but smaller and the foliage was grey, not green. I could not think of a place to put it.

I agree BorS. My Juuli has always been more floriferous and troublefree than Arabella. Everyone always goes on and on about Arabella but I much prefer Juuli.
