The clematis looks very nice but the sage is impressive! How do you grow it so dense? Is that an old plant? I am only discovering how to grow goodlooking perovskias. In the past years, convinced that they need poor soil and lots of baking in the sun, I was getting rather miserable results - just a few thin branches. My recent transplants look more promising. I gave them much better soil and more water - and they actually resemble your plant but are not as wide.

Cool BorS. I tend to cage or constrain a few of my integrifolia hybrids. Others scramble on the ground or over junipers.

I have some of those and I like the way they support the clematis. That looks really pretty. You are going to be surprised at how easy and fast the rebar ones go up.

I bought this one at a farmer's market. DH has promised for years to make me copper ones but never has.....

The Perovskia is close to ten years old. It is in southern exposure with reflected heat from the street but we have clay soil rather than sandy. I prune it very short in spring after it starts to leaf out. The only fertilizer it has had has been a topdressing of compost.

Have any of you tried wrapping of wire around the rebar trellises to give some more horizontal support? I think I am going to try that with mine.

Please let us know how it works out. It sounds like a good idea to me and if it works well for you, I may try it.

My husband and I put together our first rebar obelisk tonight. It was really simple, fast, cheap, etc. I couldn't believe how easily it went 2' into the ground, and was tied together at the top with a plastic tie. It seems pretty sturdy and looks surprisingly good. I forsee a lot more of them in my future.
