While I don't have to buy liners online because I do have clematis in gallons locally I certainly don't mean to sound as if I poo-poo anyone who does. :)

I so envy you BoS..lucky thang you !!....I'd hate wasting money on any dead plant as well and that always angers me..vendors should back their plants!!..Well girl..so whatdoyathink of my buy??

I think they look fantastic for traveling in this heat! I went to hirtsgardens on ebay & see some clems, and only some, listed as "Potted!" Does that mean potted in 2x2x4 inch liner pots? After you let them recuperate, pot them up (if you are doing that), & harden them off, how much sun will you give your baby clems? How many hours and what direction? I'm trying to learn as I'm still struggling with my baby size Princess Diana, Duchesse of Albany & Comtesse de Bouchaud.

If you use pots, will you sink the pots behind day lilies or similar plants? I know I'm supposed to sink the pots but I haven't found just the right location with just the right sun. Is it OK for me not to sink the pots and use mulch in the pots as long as the pots and the roots are kept cool? I'm in heat zone 9, which you might be in as well? The sun is absolutely boiling right now. Thanks so much!!

P.S. I know exactly what you mean about not sold locally.

Those really do look like very healthy vines, does the heart good to open a box and find they've arrived in such good condition. Congrats, they all look like winners.

I buy ebay plants all the time, not because I cant find Clematis and Heuchera locally, but becaues I can find specimens I have only read about. Hirts has sent me wonderful plants, and yours look beautiful. Birdsong farm is another I have had success with. Most recently OakCreek Growers sent me stunning Heuchera. Congratulations!

Yes Riverroads..those are those little liner plants BUT my oh my did they have some roots on them...had to cut the pot away from a couple as the roots were growing out and tangle around the bottom under the pots! I repotted them up into a quart-size pots with bonemeal and right now they are living on the table under my Pergola where they are getting great bright filtered light..Once they have settled I am going to dig a hole in my retaining gardens and drop the pots in and pull the soil back up around the pots..I just put in a new sprinkler system in those beds so they will get watered every other day,which is vital in my HOT SUMMERS in Texas..then, since I have wondeful wet winters (Which after living in Louisiana myself knows you do as well) I will plant them this coming September/November and let them grow wonderful roots over the winter and come next Spring they shall burst forth with such Vigor..Fall planting is awesome for Clematis in my area..one..it's a wet fall/winter and secondly its cooler and 3rdly when plants go dormant for winter they are still growing roots which is fabulous!!...Jeanne
