Did you have a cold spell while the bud was forming??..Sometimes that can do strange things to the bloom..but I LIKE IT!!...If it was on another vine..that would be cool if it was a sport!!..Jeanne

omg...that looks exactly like my first bloom of HF Young this year...i'll post both my pics of this year and last year as well...i can't believe how the weird colours are the same

Isn't it weird, same time, same vine, same stem. The other stems don't have this odd flower.

Yes we did get a cold snap in the last 2 days. It's June in Massachusetts and low and behold it was 92 degrees last Saturday and the humidity went with it, then cooler and lots of rain Sunday night and Monday.
Wednesday night it was down to 42 degrees over night and last night it went to 38 degrees and the weird flower bloom was fully open like this today.

I love both flowers, just wish I had them on to separate clematis vines or new why this happened this year. Wonder what caused it. Might be fun to be able to duplicate the cause next year for some of the blooms.

mine blooms again in the fall, so wonder what it will do then. I don't think their are any more buds on the vine. The top half of the vine all shriveled up and died on me, right after we where hit by a big frost about 3 weeks ago. All that survived was the part closest to the ground. It's growing on a chain link fence so wonder if the higher up from the ground it was and the cold from the chain links on the fence was too much to handle and it got killed off from the frost.

Only goes to show what temperature swings can do to a clematis flower's color.

My HF Young was gorgeous this year and I also had a different coloration of a few flowers.....kind of pretty....
