Welcome to summer flowergirl. Supposed to be close to 100 degrees here the next couple of days. Adding epsom salts shouldn't be an issue as long as you don't overdo it and you keep the plants watered well. The proportions you listed sound good to me. I have used more but for brugs that are much larger plants.

Do your brugmansias overwinter for you? I've got a bunch of them which come back each year, but, some don't get much bloom until very late in the season (October). I've relocated some of them this spring to the hottest areas of my yard with some radiant heat from walls etc.

Why do you add the epsom salts to the brugs? does it help keep the leaves darker green?

Robert, most years they will overwinter in the ground for me. I mound mulch up over the crowns after the frost has them all wimpy looking and I have cut the main stems back close to ground level. They do tend to be a bit late to start growing in the ground since I do mulch so much and that keeps the ground cooler. I have also grown them in pots and overwintered them in the unheated garage and they tend to get going much sooner than when planted in the ground and they tend to bloom sooner and with more blooms. I assume this is the case since the soil in the pot can warm up much faster than the ground.

Epsom salts help the plant leaves to green up. They tend to get pale looking faster in pots since we have to water them so much--must leach the nutrients out of the soil having to do all that watering.
