What zone are you in?

They call it florida 'Vienettta' because it is a cultivar of Clematis florida.

Botanical names are first the genus and then the species.

Florida means Flowery in Latin

Nothing to do wtih the US state. :)

As to hardiness, the milder the climate the better :-) I have attempted growing Clematis florida 'Sieboldii' no less than three times in my very mild zone 8 and it has never survived a winter.

I gave up.

My successful story with Viennetta is described in this thread. It returns for me since then reliably. It is a slow Clematis to get established and to grow, but it is well worth waiting IMO.

I've killed 'Sieboldii' three times too and 'Cassis' twice

I'm in zone 7a, I think i'm well out of the Sieboldii zone.

I planted Viennetta and Cassis last year on the south side of my house here in zone 6. Cassis did not survive the winter, but Viennetta made it and bloomed for me. It really is taking a chance in our zone, but for me each clematis was $15 each so I took the risk. I am curious if Viennetta will survive another winter. This last winter was very mild.

I bought one last year at Petiti's but it wasn't planted deep enough and I lost it. I'd love another one.
PS - my florida seboldii is blooming now (three years in my garden now)

Jacki, I bought mine from Petitti Garden Center too! Love that place!!

Vienetta has been on my wish list for 3 years now. I nearly got on 4 years ago, but was considering moving cross-country and didn't want to plant it and then have to dig it up for a move. I passed on getting it, and have regretted it since.

: have a C. Florida Flore Pleno in the ground here (in an awful spot) and it has survived for over 5 years and blooms sparsely for me each year (because of its poor location).

I emailed Evison in the UK and they responded saying that Vienetta has been poorly purchased by the North American "stockists" (retailers) but many of their other wonderful varieties can be located at "stockists" listed on their website.

My recommendation is that you check out Evison's website, look for nurseries which stock their plants in your area and make some phone calls. (and should you find them available, let us know... I would be willing to pay shipping:)
