Can't believe it has blooms!!! Now what?

My first clematis to bloom. Venosa Violacea. Planted this spring.

I really take awful pictures...or is it the camera that's taking awful pictures...what kind of camera do you guys use to get such gorgeous pictures?

Okay, now I'm a little unsure as to what to do next with this clemmie. Her top growth has stretched beyond the height of the trellis in the pot and she's doing her darndest to reach the arch of the gazebo that she's planted in front of. (puffed up chest and big proud mama smile)

Congrats!!..Since you are in zone 7..I would enjoy the blooms and once they are all gone..I would prune her down to the 5th or 6th leaf axil from the soil and let her grow up and bloom again...Jeanne

I think the reason the first two pictures are blurry is because you are a little too close to the bloom. The third picture is fine. Great looking clemmie. After seeing your picture and Harry's pictures, I will have to get myself a VV next year.

Thanks Jeanne...I think I owe some success to several glasses of wine...I'm raising my Chardonnay to you! I'm going to print this and do exactly what you suggest.

Carol, I think you're right. The third pic isn't so bad. I still think I need to get a better camera. VV is one of 3 clems that I have (that are planted) and the only one that's bloomed.

You just need to step closer or back or move your lens in and out to get it to focus on the Clemmie instead of the background.

I don't know how to do it with a manual camera just an automatic.

Congratulations on those fine blooms. Your camera is automatically focusing on the background instead of the subject bloom. The third picture is good. Do you tap the shutter release a few times before shooting?

Venosa V is a fabulous clematis. Mine is very vigorous. I am glad I planted it under a shrub where it has lots of room because VV is gonna be big next year.

You should plan on transplanting VV or getting a bigger support for the pot.

I'm using a Canon Sureshot (it's my daughter's), and just play around with the settings. Even though DD has shown me how to use it, I'm pretty hopeless with it. I'll practice the moving closer and back.

I was planning on leaving VV and Viola in front of the gazebo on my deck to grow up and flank the archway. When you say bigger support, do you mean taller or less flimsy? To help VV reach the arch I plan on creating an extension from the trellis to the gazebo with fishing line.

I would love to see how your VV looks with the shrub. I purchased Daniel Deronda to plant with a viburnum...but now I'm not so sure I want to keep the viburnum...gardening for 2 years and I'm already moving things around... :)
