It finally bloomed!!!

Well, after 3 years Polish Spirit finally had 2 blooms on it today. Pump Toad, did yours ever bloom yet? Jeanne told me to pinch it back, maybe thats what cause it to finally set 2 buds. At least I now know it's Polish Spirit.

Just unreal flowergirl. I would consider ditching it and getting another one from another source. If it takes a Polish Spirt that long to produce two blooms, there is something wrong with it. I got the first one I have from Walmart in a tiny pot and it flowered that very first year while I was still growing it out in a gallon sized pot. If you have been treating it as a type III all along, it should have bloomed without any additional pinching.

I hafta agree with Miguel...Mine is a thug..thug do you hear me..he is a monster..LOL...I think I said "hard prune" but pinching serves its purpose too...Is yours getting alotta sun?..Mine is in FULL sun and adores it!! Hey Miquel..she is in zone 5 so hers hasn't been growing for long this season?..I think hard pruning that baby each year..she'll get that thug effect we have...but buying another one is adviseable..I planted another one this past Spring from Lowe's and he is already 5 feet tall with several vines..the one I have had for 4 years has about 40-50 vines from the ground..he is suffocating my arbor and shot up about 7 feet up my Apple Tree..such a naughty boy but what a joy!!...Jeanne

No, my Polish Spirit has not bloomed and there is no sign of a bud. It's only about 1 yard tall. It's 3 or 4 years old planted on South side of the house.Cut it way back this Spring so I don't know what else to do. I have a Etoile Violette in another location that is just loaded with blooms. 3 year old plant also.
I don't want to plant another in that location so quess I will just leave it for now as it has wonderful foliage. LOL!
If I can find a Polish Spirt in any of the Garden Centers I will get it and try another location.

This does sound very strange for PS. Mine is also quite vigorous. It is only a 3 year old plant and it bloomed heavily even its second year in the ground. If you find another one and put it a different location I am sure you'll love it!

About fifteen years ago, when I was living in Boston, I put in a Polish Spirit that never bloomed, too! It and Henryii were my very first clematises. I've thought about that PS a number of times, willing to blame it on my inexperience (certainly not my youth!), but the Henryii thrived. PS became a substantial vine, but no flowers.
