Encounter in the wild

On a hike in the foothills west of Denver this morning, I came across a wild clem I've never seen before in many years of ogling the wildflowers. How I wish I'd had my camera. It's called Sugar Bowl or Leather Flower, the book says. Dark purple, nodding, recurved tepals, and only about a foot tall. Made my day to see it.

I aslo wish you had taken your camera with you. Google discovered the following about this clematis:
A stunning wildflower from the southern foothills of ColoradoÂs Front Range; non-vining bush clematis. Closely related to Clematis ÂGarden Club of DenverÂ, These scottii clematis are long-lived perennials with showy 1" deep blue, bell-shaped flowers
Talking about clematis in the wild I'd like to share my experience:
Last year on an outing with some friends discovered several dozens wild clematis I believe were viticella species. We were crossing a small wood near the town of Nova Zagora, about 200 miles SE from Sofia.
