Hog panel that you can buy at any feed store is strong, galvanized and you can paint it and it's very cheap. It won't win any beauty prizes, but when it's covered in clematis you can't see it anyway. Another option is to get green vinyl coated fencing they sell at Lowes and stretch and staple it to pressure treated posts. Here is one that I constructed thusly. It is the one in the background. I have also purchased copper trellises from a seller on eBay and planted them in the ground side by side. This is visible in the foreground.

Nickville, I really like the copper trellis- if I could find something like that at a reasonable price, it would be great. This is going in a real visible spot so I'd like something nice looking and it needs to be strong to support the rose bush. Brandy

That's very attractive, buyorsell. I made one for my honeysuckle and they proved to be tougher than the lattice! It was the synthetic lattice. It goes across the back of my flower garden and the sections are set on the side rather than vertically. I had to cut my honeysuckle down because it was destroying the lattice- now I can't get it trained back up the lattice! I am the person who does the carpentry work here and it is very hit or miss.
