Clematis can easily be shaded with mulch. It is the best way to grow clematis since it keeps the soil moist (this is what clematis really need-not the cool) and it can decompose and add organic matter to the soil.

I wish who ever started that bottoms in the shade tops in the sun carp would not have.

Clematis need to be moist. Not shaded or cool. Moist.

I couldn't agree more BorS. I think that whoever started that old wives tale confused the cause and the effect in the equation!

I'm just throwing out another possibility - Maybe you have an early blooming clematis and it finished it's bloom cycle.

Good point Janet. If it is an early blooming clematis, it could be done for the season.

Sorry, we went off topic about the cool roots and forgot to answer the question about stopped blooming. It very well could be done. Nothing to do with sun or watering.
