Free flowering means it has a lot of blooms at once.

I don't grow Miss Bateman so I can't tell you when she blooms.

I tried to look her up on the database I used to keep, but couldn't find anything about timing. But in 2010 (which was an exceptionally early spring in Maine), she started blooming the last week in May. This was about a week later than my earliest ELFs, Asoa, Dawn, Lemon Chiffon & Baltyk. I worked a lot of overtime in May & early June this year, so I didn't make lists or take as many pictures

Miss Bateman for me is a early bloomer, She is very beautiful and I enjoy her alot when she is in full bloom. She is not a repeat bloomer for me. Check out this link I posted several years ago of her and Asco. She blooms for me here in Tn in April. Ms. Bateman and Asco are my early girls. I just now got around to trimming them both back but Ms. Bateman will not rebloom, never has, but Asco probably will as she usually gives me a few blooms in the fall. Her is the link. Sandy

Miss Bateman in the UK should flower twice, in May/June and again in Aug/Sept with smaller flowers.

Having said that, some years she flowers twice for me and others she doesn't!

My Miss Bateman blooms in early May just when my Korean spice viburnum that hosts it has finished blooming. After it's first bloom I cut it in half and it reblooms in early fall. Every year.

I'm getting rid of my Miss Bateman. I've had it for 5 years and it has only produced a few blooms one year. It gets treated like all my other clematis, plus this has been a great year for the clematis in my garden; still nothing from Miss Bateman. Maybe we both have plants from a bad batch?

In the central valley of California, (zone 9) Miss Bateman blooms on old wood the first week of April and re-blooms profusely on new wood the first week of August.
