Clematis on the Web trying to identify a clematis

I have been lurking here for two years though post often on the winter sowing site. I appreciate the info that you all share and have grown clematis for years. I have about 15 different clematis plants with a few unidentfied.

I have been hesitant to post a photo for identification as I often see others suggest Clematis on the web. Well, I have tried it several times and come up blank. I really don't have any info on the clematis to fill in the blanks. If the plant has been misidentified sometimes all I am sure of is the color and number of tepals and that gets me nowhere. Searching through every purple or pink category or all alphabetized clematis takes a long time.

Do you have any suggestions to make my search more fruitful?

Not only do you need to fill in the color of the Tepal but the Anthers as well..this will eliminate a whole bunch of clematis..also...to help..you can put in bloom time and also if you know which pruning group your clematis is will further eliminate those that don't fit the criteria...Jeanne

You can post photo's here also. We always have fun trying to guess what clematis it is. Some of the blue type 2 are hard to ID, but usually someone can ID your clematis if it is fairly common.

I have been finding the COTW search engine not to be entirely accurate. Twice I used it to search, once for shade tolerance & the other for a No ID & found errors in both. For example, a very common Will Goodwin is not being listed as having white/gold/yellow anthers with either blue/purple tepal. If you search w/o the anther color he shows up with blue as a tepal. So I wouldn't bank that all the possible cultivars would be listed in your search.
