Mothra (love the name!) Miss Bateman is a Group 2 or Early Flowered hybrid, which means light pruning either Fall or early in Spring, as it blooms on old wood. However, for the first few years, cut it back to about 12-18" to encourage the growth of multiple vines. Clems can be grown on a split rail fence if you provide something for them to cling to, such as stapling chicken wire to the fence, so the tendrils can wind around it.
