Winter anxiety

Does anyone else feel like your plants are yelling at you to take them inside, lol. I am never going to sleep tonight. I will keep bringing more and more in or covering things up until the nyquil kicks in. Some of them I know are annuals but can't even let those die in peace, lol. I just keep hoping I can keep them around a little longer. Whatever makes it through tonight that I didn't get to save will come in as soon as I feel better. I just keep looking at the front bed thinking there is still an aweful lot of stuff out there in the cold, lol. I bet John wishes I had taken the nyquil earlier, lol. I just don't need to be out in the cold anymore tonight so I am going to try and go to bed. Wish the ones luck that have to stay out. Some channels say we will get below freezing and some say just above so I am hoping the above ones are correct.

I sure hope you feel better. Nyquil kicks my butt! If I were there I would help you bring in the rest of your babies. I took in all my epies and plumies today and tomorrow the rest come in. Get some rest and maybe John can help you bring some more in tomorrow. Take care. Linda

Mine are yelling at me too. They want to know what happened to the light, heat, fertilizer & water (mine have been inside for a couple weeks). I keep telling them to shut up & go back to sleep until spring. LOL

That's why I love this forum---all of gardeners think alike...even when we are sick! We are all in tune with our plants needs throughout the year---i.e. I think I psychologically feel better when my plants have been thru a nice rain shower--like I feel them say "Awwww...thank you!"! I worry about my plants when a cold front approaches... Whereas someone else may think we are crazy!!! But I truly belive it is the one that has the 'hands in the soil' that truly reaps the benefits of gardening--and only a fellow gardener would understand. Good night and I hope you feel better in the morning!!

Kristy, seems like you've been sick for quite a while. Please take it easy. I know we all love our plants, but if you don't take care of yourself, who is going to care for your plants if you get worse. Seems like you have been pushing yourself too much -- ssssssllloooooowwwwww down!

I was out early yesterday morning with high intent of mowing the lawn and watering everything very well. Saw the news about the fire in Sylmar which isn't too far from me. I ended up just raking leaves because I didn't want to exert myself too much by mowing with all that smoke in the air. I also didn't water because I felt the firemen might need all the water they could get to put out the fire. As the day progressed, more fires started in other parts! Haven't heard how many were intentionally started (sick bas****s) or mother nature kicked in. Maybe today, I will do some selective watering because the Santa Ana winds are really drying up all the moisture in my plants.

LOL F4f. Nyquil only takes me half way through the nite, then I am wide awake at 2am! Ha!

Please take care of yourself, ok? That is the top priority.

I'm going to go see if I can get a few more cuttings for myself today. Go put some cuttings in DIRT (spagnumumumum whatever and cups) and maybe grab a cutting from a shell shocked inca sun out there.

But basically, I left some to just go to their maker. But the ones I haven't taken in, are giving me the finger. (I'm STILL here, you CAN'T kill me. See? i'm still growing! You a**hole!)

I feel really bad every time I walk past the boston ferns out there. It's like they reach out and beg me, "please put me in the green room. I promise, I promise, I'll grow."

I may break down and take those in. I can't take it, they are trying to live and survive.

Dweeb you crack me up! Eloise I will be thinking of you all day. I watched the fires on the news last night. My mom and dad lost their home of 30 years last year in the ca fires. They had the home sold. They rebuilt and just had it finished. My dad is a gardener all two acres destroyed. He is excited about starting all over again. I will be thinking of you. Keep us informed that you are okay. Barb

    Eloise:

Keep us informed, ok? I remember those fires, and they are frightening.

And how wonderfully unselfish of you to conserve water. You are truly remarkable.

My brugs have been put to bed for a few weeks now and they are puttng out sickly looking pale leaves in the basement trying to resist going dormant. I'm like Linda "napdog" and keep telling them to shut up and go to sleep. I have a zonal geranium on the porch that is stll beautiful and is still blooming beautfully after several frosts and freezes. I'm afraid to touch it - afraid that it might shatter. It may be frozen in place. LOL.

Kristy...stop and smell the Bruggies. he he. I sure hope you start feeling better soon. Perhaps others are right. Take a day to yourself, curl up with a blanket and a book and just relax.

Eloise, Last night as I laid in bed watching the news I wondered if anyone on this forum was in the general area. I sure hope they can get those fires contained soon. I feel so bad for all the people losing all there posessions. I lost a home to fire and for years would look for a serving spoon or a specific ice cream scoop. ha ha. The ol' brain just could not keep track of what I had and what I have. ha ha. It's a STRANGE feeling. I will be thinking of you and the others in CA. How awful.

Dweeb, you are a hoot...heck just bring them all in. ha ha ha.

I listened too and I heard them this morning all the way into the house...take us out...take us out. So that is where they are now. Sniffing some fresh air and getting some more sunrays!

    Lucy

They better not come and say tonight it is freezing!

Eloise I truly hope the fires get put out quickly. I feel so bad for all the people losing their homes. I guess I did too much Saturday and stayed in bed all day yesterday. I just can't seem to get my energy back. I have most of the brugs inside. Its all the other plants I left out that I wish I could protect as well. I bet all mine in the garage want back outside too. They are packed in there. I hate not being able to get to them all easily. I will have to do some re arranging when I can. It seems like when the days got shorter it sucked all the energy right out of me. I think we need to petition the new president to do away with time changes and leave it daylight longer, lol. I hate it getting dark so early. Well I'm gonna try and get my butt moving and do a little cleaning. Maybe all this dust is why I can't breathe, lol.

Uhhhh, I wish I hadn't gone outside this afternoon. I had only looked out the window and thought everything was ok until I went out to water and saw my butterfly bed. everything in there is wet and mushy. So sad. That is about all that bit the big one though. The other beds are all ok. Even my coleus. Crazy that it hurt everthing in the one bed so badly. I was sorry I forgot about my blackie sweet potatoe vine in there and the black eye susan vine that had just started blooming. I have had the sweet potato vine for a couple of years and its liquid now. My neighbor passed me over a couple pieces of his shrimp plant over the fence. I guess he saw the look on my face when I was just standing there holding the water hose and looking at the bed in shock. He said he knew I was sick when he didn't see me outside lately and his wife is sick too so maybe funky stuff going around. I hope I can root the shrimp plant. Its a pretty red one. It was nice of him to cheer me up with something new. I never did get my shrimp plant I wanted this year. I ordered a shrimp cocktail baby plant in the spring and it turned out to be a different plant, lol. I still have a couple seeds for the blue one I will try to get those to germinate in the spring. Never got around to planting them this year.
