Where are you in Canada? If you have below freezing temps in winter, I'd leave it alone and let it go dormant. In late winter/early spring cut it back to the ground to encourage new growth.

If in a more temperate west coast area, I'd only guess you'd cut it now and let it resprout in the fall? Someone who lives in a warmer climate might have a better response.

Pruning helps newly planted clematis, it doesn't hurt them but unless you live in Vancouver/Victoria where it is still warm enough you should not prune it now.

For pruning group 2 or 3 clematis, pruning is best done in late winter/early spring.....about the same time you would prune roses in your area.

'Ville de Lyon' (note correct spelling) is a group 3 clematis, indicating it is a later season bloomer that flowers on new growth. These are most often hard pruned back to the third set of buds each season. But all newly planted clematis regardless of pruning group benefit from a hard pruning after their first season in the ground. Many growers extend this practice to the second or third season as well. This encourages the development of a healthy root system and the production of additional shoots from the root crown, which typically results in the plant being more resistant to wilt and damage from wind, mechanical means, rabbits or other critters. Just wait until early spring to do so.
