Lalaland, you make me laugh. You remind me of myself - very determined - and bitten by the clematis bug - I will drive to every corner of the earth (well, city limits anyway, maybe the next county) for a clematis that I really, really, really want. Actually, I lied, I would drive down to Illinois if I had to.

I sensed your determination when you mentioned that you were driving to Monches in your other post, just to "see" for yourself if they missed something. LOL

Like you, I have driven all around town and back again..and with gas prices these days, there's no doubt that we must be addicts! :)

I know exactly what you mean. There's a pic on there that makes me drool too. I can't remember whether it's the same as yours, but I wish we knew how to get one, or at least tell someone we would be interested in having one if they came to market.

Worse yet, if you go under the "New & Updated Entries" & start clicking on some of those new pics the majority of them are out of Japan. Some VERY unique, gorgeous clems out that way. When will we ever get to see those for sale? That site is 1 big tease! Dangling all these beautiful clems in front of our eyes with no way of acquiring any of them!

There are tons of Japanese hybrids offered for sale here in US. Check out the Joycreek site. So there is a hope that we'll see new intoductions from Japan soon :0)

I had Joy Creek open in 1 tab & COTW in another. The 1's that I liked, Joy Creek didn't have. I think it is because they are all so new? COTW said someone from Japan was trying to update the site with all of clems that weren't listed from there.

I need to learn to be more patient I guess.

I really do not know. Joycreek has so many Japanese hybrids, I just thought that they might have some nice business connection with breeders from Japan. You can send them an email and ask about particular hybrid you are interested in.
On the other hand, they've never had 'Omoshiro' for sale (as far as I remember). It is on my wish list for a long time... One of the most distinctive Japanese hybrids IMHO.
Now when Chalk Hill is closed, the only USA online vendor that had it is Brushwood. Can not wait till they'll have 'Omoshiro' again...

I am in love with Omoshiro too! I have been watching Brushwood's website to see if they are going to update their inventory for fall shipping. It seems that once they sell out, they are out for the season? I haven't seen any changes on their site at all. I am eyeing up a few there & didn't want to do anything until I found out for sure. Do you know?

Newbie asks, what is COTW? My garden is only 5 years old with just 9 Clems.Could you recommend your favorite online vendors and info sites. After 5 years I am ready to revamp the garden this Fall, clearing out all the Newbie bumbles (they will find homes in friends gardens) and planning for spring 09. It would be a great help to make better educated choices. I love Clematis, Roses, Daylilies, Sedums and any companion plants.

Brushwood folks will know their next year selection in the late December/early January. They do not add anything after that. I can not beleive I missed 'Omoshiro' this year. Hope they will sell it again.

Thanks Kimcoco, I have used Bluestone and Klehm's too. Donahue's is new to me, will check it out. Per Alina's suggestion I looked at Joycreek last night till 1am. I opened COTW and looked up all the ones that Joycreek had no photos for. WOW it was almost overwhelming, in a good way. Does Joycreek REALLY have all those cultivars available for the most part? Do you need to contact them now to put in an order for Spring 09 to get what you hope for? Thanks again.

Bluestone sells Donahue's Clematis. If you have bought them before, you know what to expect. The Donahue's web site is somewhat confusing, but their selection is much better than Bluestone's one. You can order their catalog.

Joycreek has the availability chart. You can check whether they have the cultivar you are interested in. And yes, they have most of them when they start their sales. They will start accepting 2009 orders in January probably.

Klem's Songsparrow has quite hefty shipping charges. Their Clematis are very nice though.

The unnamed clematis are seedlings of Ian's, one of the sites proprietors, just so people know. You can contact them through the site if you'd like; he'd at least like to know that people enjoy his handiwork!

I took michael in chicago's advice & emailed them. Richard Nook emailed me back & said he was in Canada for business & couldn't look up that seedling just then. He said he would forward the email to Ian. Wow, I don't want to get my hopes up too much, but am wondering if it is close to being put in production! I asked him to release it here in the US first...HeHeHe! Here's to dreamin'!

I just received an email from Ian, what a great guy! Unfortunately the 1 I love so much is inconsistent & not getting put into production. Ironically he recommeded Walenburg as a very close substitute. Glad I bought that 1 when I had the chance.

He currently has 4 that are registered & 1 that is very close to being put into production, 'Together'. I love the meaning behind it. He named it for his parent's long & happy marriage! He sent me a pic of it & not sure if I can post it here?

He also said I should try growing clems from seed & that it is quite fun & easy to do. He even offered to send me some!

Like I said...what a great guy!
