I have Sweet Autumn Clematis and we had some pretty warm days this summer, more than a few days in the 100's and mine did just fine. I had more blooms this year than ever. I have had this paticular plant for three years now and I have almost managed to get it to grow completely up and over my arbor. It is beautiful though. They are easy to grow. Good luck!

The temperature of the heated metal roof is significantly higher than the temperature of the surrounding air. You can fry eggs on it. I would not allow any vine to climb on the metal roof.

If the roof is white, it should grow ok with out burning...White will reflect most of the heat...If it's any other color, well,,, your probably going to get some burning...

I think it might be better if you put up some lattice work (half inch pieces of timber, etc.) to lift the plant off direct contact with the roof. As it grows and cover the entire roof, the interior might actually be cooler and the scorching surface of the thin roof will no longer be an issue.

My SAC is extremely dense. It will probably make it's own shade.
