Clematis dind't bloom this year???

I didn't prune either of my Clematis back last fall and I only got two flowers on them this summer. Last summer both plants were FULL of tons of blooms and I had pruned them hard that previous fall. So should I prune it this year? It's a monster of a plant, so I'm thinking all of its energy when into the plant itself and not the flowers?? Kind of like one year I had five-foot tall pepper plants with hardly any peppers. This year I have small pepper plants and tons of peppers. :)

Thanks for any assistance!

Alicia
