Harlow Carr is a great clematis. Even in our drought and only once a week watering it did fine for me in full sun here in NC zone 7a. You might have different conditions in Florida in zone 9 so I would suggest planting where the plant will get afternoon shade and mulching well. Provide it with adequate moisture and it will be fine.

Don't have Saturn and there are three listings for it on COTW so I don't have a clue as to which one you have. Mulch, water, and protection from the hot afternoon sun are the best recommendations I can give you for it.

Since you specified specific replacements for the ones you ordered and didn't get them, I would suggest you challenge the charges to your credit card if you have the appropriate documentation.

Thanks, I do think the Harlow Carr will be nice, I'm still a bit disappointed though that I didn't get the ones I picked (I'll be on the lookout for them elsewhere). How tall is your HC? I'm trying to decide where to plant it... does it vine a lot and get very tall, or stay more compact and bushy?

*If* the Saturn survives, and that's a huge if right now, I'll just have to wait and see what it is... I will try and be excited about the surprise... lol

As far as challenging the charges, I've never done that. I used a Visa card for the purchase. What sort of documentation do you think would be needed? They mailed me my paper clearly stating my choices and alternates with my plants, along with crossing them out and saying they were switched out. But honestly, I wonder if its worth the effort or not :/ Part of me cares, and part just wants to move on with it all... sad that so many are having these issues.

For me Harlow Carr sort of climbs wire fencing which has a large bush behind it so it is sort of squashed between the wire fencing and the bush. I say sort of climbs because although it is not supposed to climb and I haven't actually seen any petioles wrapped around the fencing, it does seem to grow upward in the area and weaves its branches through the fencing. Mine "climbs" and it probably gets 5 to 6 feet tall or so. Here is a picture of it in the center from a few years ago.

Many clematis at this time of year may already be going dormant or already dormant and may appear dead while in reality it may be very much alive. Only time will tell so don't give up on it now.

If you are willing to live with the clematis that you got, there is no need to contest the charges. It sounds as if you might really like Harlow Carr now. You have most of the documentation you need to fill a challenge against the charges on your card. The paperwork you received with what you ordered and the acceptable substitutions with them crossed out is ample evidence that you didn't get what you wanted and that your substitutions were ignored. The one last thing that I would do is contact Chalk Hill directly and voice your complaints in an email about the unauthorized substitutions they made. Keep a copy of that email and any email that they return to you,if any. After suitable time for a response and if you are still wanting to challenge the charges because nothing has been resolved to your satisfaction, then call your Visa card company and let them know what is going on and the documentation you have. They will do the rest for you about resolving the issue.

I will send them an email, though I probably won't contest the charges. I am going to give the Saturn my best effort and hope to see life come spring.

Might I ask, what is the Clematis to the left of the Harlow Carr in the picture. Your flowers are lovely, btw.

To the left of Harlow Carr is Wisley and to the right is Rosemoor. Both of them along with Harlow Carr and Hyde Hall (which I don't have) were a series of four clematis introduced to commemerate some of the great British gardens.
