Diana..there are so many white clematis...it's impossible to id one from a description..a pic would be needed because you need to see the anthers, connectives, shape of the tepal etc to be sure...You can send a pic to Jeanne007@Hughes.net and I will try....unless you can post it here ....Jeanne

One of the many type IIs is as close as I am going to say!

It looks a lot like my Wada's Primrose.

Thanks for your help... the most important part to me was identifying the type so I can prune and maintain properly. My best guess was Wada's Primrose too, but as a novice gardener I had no idea how many others have similar properties.

Diana, don't stress pruning. You can't hurt a Clematis by pruning. It helps them. You might change the time it blooms by pruning it but any pruning is better than none.
