On Nov 13 '06 I posted a "Cutting Back from windblown damage question", and michael from chicago responded saying it would be okay to cut back. Just over a week ago when I went out to the compost bin I noticed the vines had buds at the joints as we've had some unusual warm weather. The variety are common Jacmanii and Nellie Moser.

I took cuttings about 4" below each bud growth, placed in water and now I have additional growth and some with leaves. What are my chances of getting root growth? Does anyone know or have tried and if so would it be better to leave in water or put the stems in soil?
