what kind of tape is that ...

if its the parafilm ....

it needs to be stretched tighter .... in doing so.. it almost seems to melt and become whole ....

try a piece on a pencil ... the strip should be about 3/4 inch by about 3 inches... an adult bandage size or so ... and it would probably stretch to 4 to 6 inches ...

otherwise.. super ..

NOW QUIT PULLING ON IT .... lol ...

an ace bandage .. elastic bandage came to mind .... as you put it on.. you pull it tight ....

and then the tape is left there for a year.. or until the plant swells enough to break it apart ... on its own ...

regardless.. whatever works.. works ...

Ken, there's a rubber grafting band under the tape. If anything, I may have gotten carried away putting that on too tight. The parafilm breaks when stretched; seemed when the room was warmer, it stretched better and broke less. Is warmth the key or did I get old stuff?

no.. the key is knowing how hard to stretch it... lol ...

and that is simply a function of doing it all a couple hundred times .... lol ..

so one unit of strength less than breakage... lol ..

if you have a rubber band... get rid of the tape.. overkill .. and lose tape is just going to cause problems ... trap moisture ... IMHO ...

i learned in a 55 degree greenhouse.. so there wasnt all that much heat involved ...

and yes.. the first graft took about 10 pieces of tape.. before i got it right ...

I have some 400 conifers now Barbara, so in 3-5 years I should have plenty of scion wood for you. I'd be happy to trade. Wow this is a fun hobby!

I don't have a lot yet, but I'll be happy to share. I do have about 250 Japanese Maple cultivars, which make some nice scions too... :-)
