I'm a bit perplexed as to the reason behind planting something in the containers along with your primary plant. Especially plants with two such dissimilar water and nutrient requirments. I dare say that the reason why you cannot find information on this is because it's just not an accepted practice.

citrus are heavy feeders, and do best with nothing growing around their root zones.

yellow leaves could mean not enough nutrients, or over/under watering.

what's your watering schedule? if too much water or if the potting mix stays too wet for too long, could be root rot.

I discovered it was the sprinklers. They were getting too wet. I'm going to let them dry out and see how they do.

I am a bit perplexed. If you were over watering, your succulents would rot away.

Yep, it looks really good! Or, the succulents look good, at least. The citrus, not so much. I'd have them separated in a flash if they were mine. The citrus are clearly at a disadvantage.

I like that idea too and will try it in the future. The succulents I have underplanted are graptopetalum paraguayense. They grow like weeds here, with no water at all and in water where they spring roots. They barely have roots so I thought the citrus could handle it. That being said I completely repotted the lime removing all the soaked soil and replaced it with new soil and some citrus food. I'm not going to underplant it and see how it does. The other two I'm going to give a good feeding and thin out the succulents.

They definitely look pretty! Pairing a citrus with underplanting makes the arrangement look pretty and I am looking for ideas to plant underneath a mature kumquat tree as well. I saw pictures with Thyme and Bacopas. They looked pretty and both are very draught tolerant.

If not directly in the same container, then you can plant them in independent small pots and arrange around the tree.

I also have read where citrus do great with underplantings. The only one I saw suggested lavender or herbs. Don't get this because the lavender would need more sun than it is going to get under my dwarf satsuma.
