how are the ferns doing now?

Did they brown out and die back last year?

Ferns generally can die back if too much heat and not enough humidity and moisture in August. Are your ferns Ostrich ferns?

I think generally next year will be when you find out. You probably have done all you can. Just out of curiousity how did you happen to overspray? Gust of wind or sprayer was more powerful than you thought? I was just wondering if the dying and wilting was a coincidence and you might have other issues.
