Ferns sometimes don't overwinter very well inside the overheated and overly dry home. Without seeing your plant, I'd suggest that you cut all of the stems back cleanly to the soil level. Continue to water very sparingly (meaning thoroughly but infrequently) and if all is well, new growth will appear as the days get longer.

Thanks rhizo! After reading several posts, etc, I repotted it and removed about 1/2 the roots, and all the dead fronds. I'm pretty sure it was rootbound, they were to the edge all the way around and VERY tightly packed. It looks pretty sparse with about a dozen fronds left compared to the thick, 3' across it was when I got it. I'll let you know how it works out!

I am no expert on ferns by any means but years ago I was able to nurse my grandmothers fern back to health in a reasonably short time. This poor thing was in really bad shape, all I could see was brown. I cut it back like rhizo has suggested and I found one tiny bit of green right in the center. I dug around the soil with a fork to loosen it a bit and began watering the poor thing with poopy aquarium water (no joke)! Also when I would brew tea I would break open the used teabags and spread the grounds on the top of the soil. In less than a year the fern was looking better than it ever had. Oh forgot to mention that I also misted it quite often.
