Do you have an Areca PALM or some kind of fern?

I always assumed it's a fern. (I though palms would be those with firm bases, usually one or a couple- my Areca has a ton of little stems all growing into beautiful green fans.) if the link I posted doesnt work, please try looking at this one:

I am desperate for some comments regarding certain worries of mine.. I have now repotted it into its new big pot with a draining hole and fresh soil. I usually water it once a week.
I assume the proper way of watering is around the fern/palm and not in the middle where the stems are?

I am also awaiting miracle-gro plant food which according to them i should use twice a year. I'd love some tips of how to apply it to a repotted plant. Sprinkle it? cover it with soil? Add deeper in the sides? I have no clue :-(

That is an Areca PALM.

Container plants should be watered thoroughly each and every time you water....enough so that the entire volume of potting mix and root system is completely saturated and the excess should drain out rapidly. Then....you wait until the soil becomes somewhat dry again. If you just water certain parts of the pot, then sections of the roots will dry out and die.

Now that you know the name of your palm, you can look it up and find out all sorts of information. You might consider, too, posting your question in the Houseplant Forum. Lots of people have questions and concerns about their indoor palms.

When your fertilizer comes in, READ AND FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS ON THE LABEL. I believe that most MiracleGro fertilizers are mixed with water and applied on watering day. But you may have a different kind.

I have two Areca Palms that are doing well. I use "Schultz-Instant" liquid plant food. I add seven drops per quart every time I water (usually about once a week). I have the plants in a bright location, but not in direct sunlight. Rhizo's watering tips are good. I also soak the pots in a large container of water every couple of months so no part dries out.
