I discovered a fern growing in my garden and would like to propagate it
It might be a Hawaiian fern.

I noticed a few branches growing from a root that's been snaking under rocks. (See photo)
Others are growing out of a bark like branch/stem.

Can I just break off a branch and put it in dirt, or should I cut off a chunk of the root?
