I just googled and looked up moss with similar features. No idea abt what it is really is tho :P

Nobody knows what these are?

The second one is in the genus Physcomitrium. Probably Physcomitrium pyriforme. I collected a lot of them on muddy river bank edges in Missouri last spring.

I am not sure about the first one. Mosses are a lot easier to identify if they have little sporophytes on them in addition to the leafy green mat. You might try the California moss Flora which is now online. http://ucjeps.berkeley.edu/CA_moss_eflora/

Does anyone have any idea what this beautiful red moss could be? It is growing on a log that edges one of my paths in my woods. It covers almost the whole 8' log. I swear it wasn't here last year so it must be pretty fast-growing, maybe with all the rain we've had this spring.
