Boston Ferns Outside

Hello -- as someone with alot of shade plus deer issues, I'm fast becoming a big fern fan. I couldn't resist 2 large, potbound Boston Ferns on deep discount, and I'd like to divide them and plant them outside in a shady area I'm establishing for ferns and moss along with other specimens.

My question is, will they overwinter, or even do well at all not in a pot and hanging? I'm in zone 6. Anything I can do to help them along?

I appreciate the guidance, as I'm kind of winging it. I've learned so much from this forum and others on Garden Web. I literally run in from planting and ask questions as I go.

Thanks, Bernadette
