Florists often use Rumora adiantiformis (Leather leaf fern). I think this species would match your description

Dryopteris marginalis as well I think.

Rumohra adiantiformis (Leatherleaf Fern), it is. Thanks! I've been trying to figure that out forever. It is only hardy to about zone 8-9, so you've already answered my next question: Would Dryopteris marginalis make a good look-a-like fern?

Would the leather leaf fern be o.k. on a porch (with overhang) during the winter here in Zone 8?

I could keep it back near the wall.

Wouldn't get sun all day tho, just part of day.
