In order to get such a thing created, what needs to be done for starters is a thread in the suggestions forum. Then people need to post their agreement as to the desirability of such a FAQ. If there are enough positive posts, then Spike creates a FAQ page. Also someone needs to be willing to be the editor for that FAQ as Spike would not have the time to do so.

Personally as an occasional lurker/poster here, I would find it handy to have a FAQ that covers not only mosses but also common Q's on ferns.

Thanks Paul for the info. That is what I expected. I will be starting threads on all the common FAQs. I am willing to maintain FAQs page and I am willing to listen to any and all suggestions.

I have given programs on moss gardening and usually they are overflow. At a large garden show I had almost as many people attend as the Hosta national expert's sessions.

We here in North America have more moss species and better selections than people in Japan and the UK yet we have less knowledge.

Most of the FAQs are pretty easy but the first one I am working on is not and that is moss and lighting. I hope to have that done and posted this weekend.

I've posted a message on the suggestions board that this FAQ would be a great idea. Anybody else that reads this and wants to see it happen needs to go over there and add their comments.

Rick, go over to the suggestions forum and read the one on your Moss FAQ. If you email josh when you are ready, he will see that this becomes a feature on this forum. Good work! And thanks for all your effort!

I registered just to say thank you for creating these Moss FAQs. :) I've recently become very interested in moss gardening and finding information has been difficult. I hope you can get these to become "stickies" for easy reference.

Ther are about ten other FAQs to do, soil being the next one which I hope to post this evening or Sunday. The FAQs are not absolutely hard and fast rules, there will always be exceptions. But I hope with the FAQs that people can get up and running with a moss garden and then start getting creative. Although I have been gardening for a long time I do not believe that my ideas are the only ideas out there.

FINALLY! A forum on mosses! Once I saw this I had to register. I have two kinds of moss I am starting to grow right now. One is on a rock and the other was taken from between stones in a patio. I am looking forward to reading all I can in these forums to learn about my new hobby.

I am not Rick. He has not been on this forum for awhile. I have even emailed him just this past week to see if he would respond but not yet. He is the most knowledgeable person on mosses that I have ran across. I do know some and have and am growing several species of mosses and have some stuff up on my website and will be adding more journals (perhaps as early as later this week??).
What I recommend is if you have a digital camera is to post up some images at Photobucket (it is free) to share.
I am glad you are trying to grow but do not be disappointed
if you have problems at first. Growing mosses that grow in your area is a good start but not necessarily an easy task as they may be very specific as to habitat (cultural) requirements.
I have put a link up to my website journals on mosses below. Check it out. Also I recommend you copy to your
notepad the list of links below and save it on your machine. There is alot of info in those links. But
growing is often a matter of learning how to adapt the conditions you have so that the mosses you can get will
grow well for you.
