I'm in Zone 5 (near Chicago) where it can get to 20 below. Looking for ferns for under old Spruce that have been limbed up about four feet but when it rains, this area stays fairly dry unless it's an all-day soak or I hand water. I have Ostrich Ferns on the north side of the house but they're in a very low spot so any precip ends up there. The space I want to plant under the Spruce, besides being under that natural umbrella, is on the south side and the land slopes away from the trees. Hope this is clear. Will Ostrich survive here or is there a better choice?
