Matt doesn't mention he's and ozzy, or what species (most importantly) it is.

I don't know the species, but here in Australia we have two types, Elkhorn, which produce pups off the side. And staghorns which have only one growth point and must be propogated by spores. its sheild frons are more like a frill and usually have only two fertile fronds at once. If it helps its attached to an orchid tree. It is a native and grows in the rainforests here.

What is the purpose of the move?? I generally find they get much too large for growing directly so use either
wooden planks or wire baskets . These can then be hung in the trees but allows movement if necessary.
Noit sure what you mean by "orchid tree" what i call that would be members of the Bauhinia family but are generally too small to hold a staghorn. gary

Its acctually on my nabours property and they said we can take it when they move. this cannot be gron in a basket as it is ONE plant. It is not a species that produces pups. It is about a metre wideand is going to be mounted to some plywood and hung from a wall. Yes it is a bauhinia, but a very old one there are many other ones around there property and the other nabours that have come from this one.

Growing on a board is the best idea since you have the ideal climate. You'll have to very carefully scrape it off.
I use a pad of long fibered sphagnum to help hold some moisture until established. Using wire to hold it in place.
Be sure to use some type of wood not prone to rot.
Can't imagine which species you have in Australia. I've only grown bifurcatum due to the price of the others lol

Yea thats it. We Got one of a rotten tree on holidays. We would have left it but it would have fallen off and ded. if it didnt a few days lated there was a bushfire in the area. we saved it.
