We start our "Scabs" indoors under growlights. You could start them outdoors but we find starting any seeds indoors under growlights gives you the best results. We then transfer to our greenhouses when the seedlings have grown to the proper size.

Annual Scabiosas provide us with a large number of stems for cutflowers. We grow 3 types: Imperial, Ebony & White, & Blue Cockade, all tall growing varieties. They are tough, reliable plants and keep producing throughout the season.

I started mine under lights too, about 6 weeks before our last frost.

Thanks so much, everyone. It sounds like these do not need to be directed sowed like larkspurs, which was my concern. I think I will give them a whirl with winter sowing.
