Marketing flowers 1st time

Hello!

I'm wanting to experiment with flowers this year. We've had a market garden for a few years. I'd love to try all of the wonderful flowers I've read from your posts, however, I plan to simplify this year and focus on sunflowers, zinnias and a few others that compliment well with them. I'm wondering if you can recommend any fillers,etc. that you have tried with suns and zinnias that are your favorite-can't-live-without??

Thank you so much in advance...you were so helpful when I posted last spring with flower question....but we didn't make it very far. We were hit by the tornado last May and just now moving back home. It's going to be a long process, so I'm trying not to get in over my head and plant myself crazy......

Becky, I'll chime in here with a few suggestions. First get the book 'The Flower Farmer' by Lynn Byzinski, I may have spelled her name wrong but she lays out everything very clearly. My favorite fillers are bupleurum, cerinthe, (harvest into hydrating solution), misty, statice, ferns and New Zealand flax. You wont go wrong with suns and zinnias. Try some asters for later in the season, they are easy. Good luck. Kat

Lynn's book is on my to do list...I've subscribed to growing for market and have read many of the back issues. There seems to be a lot more info for flower growers in them now than there used to be.

Thanks so much for your suggestions....there's too many to choose from and it helps to know what is working for you experienced growers. Thanks a bunch!

Cinnamon Basil and Celosia Sylphid, Cramer's Amazon and Pampas Plume are good fillers for Zinnias. Purple Majesty Millet and Amaranths are good fillers with Sunflowers.
