If you want to know exactly what you are planting, buy some seed. If you want cut flower varieties, buy some seed. If you want large, bird food seed, you could plant the animal food, but it may not look like what you want...Ann

Seed for eating, whether by animal or human consumers, comes from varieties grown especially for seed. They tend to be tall (not necessarily 10 feet, though) and have big heavy heads that hang downwards. They aren't very good for cutting, with just one droopy flower head each. That's why Ann responded the way she did. She is right. Plant cut-flower or decorative varieties, or plant just for seed, but those are different kinds of sunflowers.
