noticed the same thing with my hot biscuits last year. my other amaranths were doing much better as seedlings...but the hot biscuits did catch up and ended up doing very well. As comparison to the opopeo....they were a bit smaller all around, but i wouldn't give up on them.

Thanks naturemitch, I potted the pathetic little things up into 2.5inch pots and they seem to be much happier although still sickly and a little anaemic but I am optimistic and shall not give up on them. Thanks again. Kat

I've grown this fairly successfully. Am wondering if the fact Hot Biscuits has the chlorophyll somewhat masked, is part of the problem.

A batch of older seed and hence weaker overall??

Paveggie, I considered the possibility of the leaf color just being pale, but it is the transparancy of the leaf that makes me a little nervous. The seed was new this year, so I would hope that wouldnt be an issue, but who knows? The plants, as stated above, have sort of recovered and are doing better but I am not going to give them prime space in the garden. Too many other great performers to think about. Thanks, Kat

my leaves actually look pretty yellow. I am guessing this is undesirable? Love Lies Bleeding looks better, green leaves with reddish hue.

triple b, I have looked at photos of this plant and the leaves on supposedly healthy plants do have a yellowish tint to them. I lost all my plants to a unexpected late frost, a testiment to their lack of hardiness even after being hardened off. Ah well, such is life. I resowed, even though I know the plants will flower really late. The love lies bleeding also was lost but I resowed that too. Kat

I put another one out there that was healthier looking. It still has the yellowish cast but altogether better looking, not sickly. Love Lies BLeeding is still puny but the heat is scheduled to come this weekend. They are gettting sufficient water.
