I have been bringing iris in to test how long they last. I find they don't last very long, just about three days. I haven't really tested all the different varieties. I have read some of you use a preservative, maybe that would help.

I like "Laced Cotton". IT has good substance to its petals and seems to last longer. WHile individual blooms may only last 3 days, pick a nice stalk with 7 or so buds on it, and groom your bouquet every few days, and it will remain pretty until the stalk is bloomed out.

As far as I can tell, the only irises really worth growing for cuts are Dutch Irises. I planted a mix of colors 4 years ago which included some beautiful whites, along with yellow, purples, bronzes, and blues. My customers get more than a week of vase life out of them. They are so surprised because they are used to irises not lasting. I bought mine from the Van Engelund bulb company. I highly reccommend their company and their Dutch Iris mix in general. They are a staple for me in May at my market.

I like the Dutch Iris but have never grown any. I have been looking for the Giant bearded but the are way to expensive for me. I am trying the reblooming iris for the first time this year-only five- to see how they do. Has anyone grown them to tell me what you think of them? The first blooms were beautiful. I am going to get some dutch next time I order.
