Drooping Snaps

I have been cutting Rocket snapdragons for several years for bouquets, but have been having issues this year. They are drooping after a few days.

Does anyone have any experience with this happening to them? I always cut in morning or early evening right into water. I cut them with just a few open. I don't use cold storage and they aren't being exposed to any fruit or vegetables. No foilage in water that I know of. It has been an exceptionally dry year, but I am not sure that could even be an issue. And it seems like it is the red ones over the pinks and other colors. Strange???

Any ideas?

I suspect the dry year IS an issue. They may just not be very strong in the first place due to lack-of-water stress.

You might try cutting ONLY in the morning - they could still be stressed from the heat of the day in the evening, especially if they are already stressed from lack of water.

Have you tried using preservative in the water?

Seems that in addition to dry conditions, we've had more higher degree days than in some years. Snaps surely enjoy the cooler summers than KY and PA has had this year. Maybe yours will pick up again in the fall. My reds are usually not as robust a spike as the whites and yellows.
