Here they were...

17 years ago

Well, the City shut us down for a few days as there is a discrepancy between what the bobcat man things and the city thinks needs permitting. We should be back on track in a few days we hope!!

Here are the photos of how we are progressing, or digressing in attempts to progress!

Here is post tornado...but you can see the water issues very clearly here:

This was wood from our yard. The actual photos of the fallen trees don't look very spectacular, they don't come off as they did in person. This photo drives it all home. At least 11 dump truck fulls we counted but they had already started before we began counting!

{{gwi:625155}}

Some destruction. House across and down the street was munched in two by a very big tree. House is now a unique and gorgeous rebuild, for sale!

{{gwi:625156}}

This is almost the size and width of an average lot. The "pink house" lot is one and a half city lots wide. All our lots are extra deep.

{{gwi:625157}}

The view behind both houses. We habitate the purple!

So that's as far as we are now. Leveling out slopes, softening the grade, grading for areas where we can put some retainers for a greenhouse and a hot tub platform, grading for the patio, stairs, dry creek, dry pond, rain garden, swales for watering everything and then the cisterns go in!!

    Holy smokes! Look at all that debris. You could have a bon fire.

    It's looking good.

    Hoping all goes well with the city permits.

    That is a big job! I didn't realize you had so much tree damage from storms....... I am amazed that you can visualize what you want done and then get it across to your crew! I would need a landscape artist to even begin. Wait, you may be one. Are you?

    It will be so great to see it all finished and planted. Think how you will love it....be worth the wait and the mess.

    Good luck with everything.

    WOW--those are some deep lots and lotsa trees==a lot of work!!! I can see why you contracted out for help! Looks like alot of progress has been made, with a good overall plan.

    Hope all will progress smoothly, once the permit situation is ironed out!

    OMGoodness! You weren't exaggerating one bit! I'm so glad your pretty purple palace was spared. And I'm sure with your excellent vision and skills, your new back gardens will be the envy of the neighborhood. Nah, the city of Atlanta. : )

    Good luck with the permits!

    Oh my heart just broke looking at these pictures. I can't imagine having to face that. I admire your plucky spirit for getting right in there and tackling that job. I am exhausted just looking at it.
    (bet you don't hear "plucky spirit" much these days do ya'?)

    What a project you have ahead of you! I really look forward to seeing the glorious "after" photos that I'm sure will be on their way soon :)

    GGG ~ Hope all goes well with the permits. With time you'll have a lovely paradise on that land. When we had Wilma hit us we had truckloads of debris also. It is daunting when you first look out at it all, but you just move it piece by piece until you're done.

    Bless your heart. Have fun and try not to stress.

    gldno, yes! I am a self taught garden designer and I just happen to have a gift of seeing things finished...although that can bite you back too if it isn't what you envisioned. I try to be flexible!
    My plans for this project are somewhat different than I would do for most clients. Since I know the contractor well (he did the interior of our house) we can work together well (he also gardens). So my design was based on relativities. If the patio can be yeah big, then the dry pond must be a certain size. If the dry creek is yeah wide, then the pond must be a certain size and the patio relative to that. I just want to keep things in proportion but because there are still very large trees and roots so if you are flexible you can move a little to the left and right and it's OK.
    Now I'm working on lists of fruiting trees, trees with purple and gold foliage, shrubs with colored foliage and plants with pink, yellow and orange flowers. Some that like water, wildish herbs for the water garden (they can duke it out) and night scented plants for the patio!
