I tried it. It worked for a few weeks, then they got around it. I've been using the scarecrow motion sensor sprinkler with good success.

The only time that they've ate my stuff this year was when the battery died and I didn't know it. I bought a second one to put at the other end of the garden for extra protection.

The battery shouldn't die on both at the same time.

If you can put up very tall poles, about 7-8 feet or taller, and string high test strength fishing line, say 50 lb, every 12 to 18 inches up the pole, that will generally keep deer out.
