I picked a few heads when it was at it's height of beauty, before it got too mature, and draped it over the top of a mirror in my foyer. Gorgeous! If you pick it too late, it will litter all over the place. But try it, mayb next yr. It's too late this late into the Summer. What a beautiful plant. I am sure a spray fixative would be helpful, as well.

I am new to this forum and came across this topic..How to dry Love lies bleeding... I actually pressed some last year ..using a Microfleur press..in the microwave.. and they came out wonderful..
When I layed them in the press.. I curved them into half hearts... then I pressed them in telephone books for a few days..when they were dry they were wonderful to put on Valentin cards..as Hearts!!

As a health nut, amaranth is one of my favorite foods - I can't help but rant and rave about its very high quality protein and nutrient content! The leaves can be used like spinach for salad. But my favorite parts are the seeds that can be cooked up like any other grain (although with a very earthy flavor that may take some getting used to!). When I bake breads I put a little in for texture - and also add it to my veggie burger recipe. I've been known to even eat it plain like a bowl of oatmeal for breakfast - although I do not recommend this unless you like the taste of clay.
