Signet, something you might want to try: rooting the stubs from the supermarket. I've never done this before, but I have friends whose parents do this. Get fresh lemon grass from the supermarket (Viet or Chinese supermarkets will usually have fresh lemon grass, wrapped in saran wrap near where you would find herbs/chillies etc.) Prepare your dish and leave about 3 inches from the base of the lemon grass. Even if it doesn't have roots it should root. Put in a pot and treat it like a regular cutting.
